Day 82: Covid Business Boost Common Threads of Maine: Ancient skills in a new land

Day 82: Common Threads of Maine July 5th
Sewing is one of those ancient skills that with the advent of stores and technology seems almost lost to another era.

Remember when people's mothers & grandmothers sewed or altered almost all of the clothes for the family.
I remember one of grandmothers making dolls and sewing all of their dresses to perfection down to the most delicate detail.
My boost for today is for Common Threads of Maine, based in Westbrook.
Founded 2015 by Dory Anna Richards Waxman, owner of Old Port Wool and Textile Company in Portland Maine.

Common Threads honors Maine's tradition of highly skilled industrial sewing and supports the contemporary needs of community & businesses.
Common Threads is a job training program for recent arrivals in Maine, teaching sewing skills and other skills necessary to enter into the workforce.

This program partners with local manufacturers, who produce nationally & internationally recognized brands.
Common Threads has over 300 applications for training. If you are skilled at sewing, workplace training skills or can donate bus passes, check out their donation page.
